Jim Repa is a saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer, and teacher living in the Boston area. He is an alumnus of the Berklee College of Music where he studied jazz composition. As a leader and sideman, he has performed in numerous venues around New England and the Midwest, as well as Paris, France; Cape Town, South Africa; and Ojai, California. Jim has recorded with several jazz and world music groups including the Steve Langone Group and vocalists Lynne Jackson / Mike Palter. He also produced a CD of his original compositions and arrangements with his own Destinations ensemble. Jim performs regularly as a member of the Boston Saxophone Quartet and the White Heat Swing Orchestra. He often performs in pit orchestras for theater productions, including productions at the Boston Lyric Stage, the American Repertory Theater, and the Greater Boston Stage Company.

Jim has extensive experience as a jazz clinician and presenter. He has presented arranging clinics and improvisation workshops at several jazz conferences and schools, including workshops in and around Boston, Massachusetts; New Orleans (2011 JEN conference); Ojai, California; and Cape Town, South Africa. He currently teaches young students in after-school band programs in the Boston area.

A prolific composer and arranger, Jim's works have been performed by numerous professional and student ensembles. He has sold arrangements to ensembles throughout the US, in Canada, in France, and South Africa. His compositions were performed by the Jazz Flute Big Band at the 2017 and 2021 National Flute Association conference. Jim has written many works for jazz nonet, big band, saxophone quartet, flute ensembles, clarinet quartet, back-up ensembles for singers, and various school ensembles. As a performer in multiple genres, he also has many years from experience reading other professional composer's arrangements. His experience as a performer and writer built his understanding for best practices for music notation and arranging.
